    Career Paths 1901 and beyond...

I'm going to steal a pretty cool idea, and do a career paths dynasty. Only I'm going to start in 1901. Let's jump right in.

Here are links to the other 2 players in this dynasty: Bump Hadley & Sherm Lollar.

June 3rd, 1901 The New York Giants (20-35 7th) take Ben Houser (1B), 11th overall in the 1st round.

Ben has been assigned to the rookie league, and is fourth on the depth chart at 1B, behind a 43yo Dan Brouthers, who is having an outstanding comeback season, and two very mediocre warm bodies.

    1902

Ben Houser will start his first full professional season in the low minors, as he looks to build on a solid rookie campaign.

The Giants revamped the team with several key FA signings, and a trade for AL MVP Joe Kelley (and yes, I was surprised as you were).

The Giants will start the 1902 campaign with Bill Everitt playing 1B. Bill was acquired from WAS in July, and signed a 3 year extension in Sept.

    1903

Once again Ben Houser will start the season in the Rookie League. The Giants acquired 1B Brian Anderson from The White Sox during spring training. Anderson hit .309 in limited action last season, and will be the primary RH bat off the bench and back up starter Fred Tenney (.314 106RBI).

    1904

Despite a poor spring, Ben Houser broke camp with the big league club, and will back up Brian Anderson and be the primary LH bat off the bench.

Ben Houser will break camp with the Class A Charleston (SC) RiverDogs. Barring injury, that is where Ben will play all season. The Giants have decided to make a push for the pennant, and signed John McGraw to play 3B and Manage the team.

1905 AL Final Standings. Six teams had a chance in that final week. What a pennant race.

    1906

Ben Houser will report to AA Trenton and continue to learn. The Giants signed journeyman INF Roy Brashear to play 1B for now. There is a chance that Ben might see some time at the major league level this season.

On September 1st Ben was installed as the every day starter and made the most of his opportunity. He hit his first HR on Sept. 3rd vs PIT, while batting .366 over the final 10 games.

Ben Hauser won the everyday job at 1B with a torrid spring.
